Susumu Kitagawa received his Ph. D. at Kyoto University in 1979. He became Assistant Professor (1979), Lecturer (1983), and Associate Professor (1988) at Kinki University. He was promoted to Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1992, and moved to Kyoto University as Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in 1998. He received CSJ (Chemical Society of Japan) Award for Creative Work (2001), Alexander von Humbolt Research Award (2008), and the CSJ Award (2008). He is now a deputy director of Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS). His main research field is chemistry of coordination space, developing porous coordination polymers.
