Teresa Pellegrino is currently working as a staff scientist researcher at the National Nanotechnology Laboratory of CNR-INFM, Lecce, Italy . Her research interests are the synthesis and surface functionalization of colloidal nanostructures which are able to perform multiple tasks and to their exploitation in cellular studies. She received the Master Science degree in chemistry from the University of Bari, Italy, in 2000 and the Ph.D. degree in chemical synthesis and applied enzymatic from the same university in 2005, discussing a thesis on the development of nanocrystal–biomolecule conjugates and their biological applications. She spent part of her Ph.D. research (from 2001 to the beginning of 2003) at the University of California, Berkeley, working on the interaction of quantum dots with tumor cells and on the assembling of DNA-gold nanoparticles, and as Marie Curie Fellow (from March 2003 to July 2004) at the Center for Nanoscience in Munich, Germany, developing water-soluble and biocompatible procedure to apply to nanocrystals of different materials. From November 2004 up to December 2006 she has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Nanotechnology Laboratory of CNR-INFM, Lecce, Italy, working on the development of new synthetic approaches to inorganic nanostructures made of different inorganic domains, the study of their structure, as well as their water solubilization.
