Anne Galarneau

Anne Galarneau was born in 1967 in Les Sables d’Olonne (France). She received her Ph. D. in Materials Sciences in 1993 from the University of Sciences of Nantes (France). The subject of her thesis (supervised by Prof. M. Tournoux and Dr Y. Piffard at Institut des Matériaux de Nantes in collaboration with Rhodia) was the synthesis of lamellar antimony phosphates with high ionic-exchange capacity by solid chemistry and hydrothermal synthesis for acidic and basic catalysis. In 1993, she joined the group of Prof. T. J. Pinnavaia at Michigan State University (USA) for a two year post-doc and discovered the synthesis of Porous Clay Heterostructures, which includes rods of mesoporous silica inside the interlayer of clays. In 1995, she settled at Montpellier (France) as a CNRS researcher at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie, to develop the synthesis of Micelle-Templated Silicas and their applications in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, chromatography and biocatalysis. In 2005, she obtained her Habilitation from the University of Montpellier. In 2007, she became CNRS research director at the Institut Charles Gerhardt de Montpellier in the team “Advanced Materials for Catalysis and Health (MACS)” in the group “Elaboration of advanced functional materials”. Her field of research is the synthesis of mesoporous silica materials with controlled pore size by self-assembly of surfactants (alkylquaternary ammonium, alkylamine, alkyl oligomer, triblock-copolymer, phospholipids) and silica, the control of their morphology (spheres, monoliths) by pseudomorphic synthesis, the creation of hierarchical porosity by using phase separation induced by polymers, the surface functionalization, the analysis of pore texture by adsorption and intrusion isotherms, the formation mechanisms by in-situ techniques, the study of reproducible and large-scale synthesis for applications in catalysis and chromatography, and the set up of biocompatible synthesis for encapsulation of enzymes and polyenzymatic systems aiming at the development of nanobioreactors in heterogeneous catalysis. She is author of 76 publications and 4 patents.
