David Avnir is a Chemistry Professor and Head of the Institute of Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received all his academic education. His current scientific activities include experimental, theoretical and computational studies in symmetry and chirality, experimental studies in organically doped metals, experimental studies in sol-gel materials and biomaterials, in chiral materials, and in catalysis. Earlier major interests included fractal theory in chemistry and physics, and far-from-equilibrium phenomena such as chemically driven hydrodynamic instabilities. He has co-authored more than 300 scientific papers on these topics, holds several key-patents in the sol-gel area. Recently he passed the mark of 11,000 citations of his papers, five of which were on the ISI list of the 200 most cited chemistry papers for 1982-2002, and with an h citation index of 52. Co-founder of Sol-Gel Technologies. |
